The Ultimate Step-by-Step Guide to Breast Implants

Welcome! My name is Jenny Eden. I am the creator of EdenKnowsImplants.com, and I'm so excited you are taking the first step to learning more about breast augmentation!

I still remember all the emotions I was feeling when I finally decided to consider getting breast implants.

I hadn't been happy with my breasts for years, and it wasn't until finding out that my friend Mary had implants that I decided to learn more about them.. I was excited, fearful, even a little bit embarrassed—and I had SO many questions.

I began my research, but then I ran into a problem: information overload. After spending a few days looking around the internet for help, I remember telling my husband:

"Learning about breast implants feels like trying to drink from a fire hose!"

That's exactly why I've created this site. You've made an extremely courageous decision to consider getting an augmentation, and I want this to be a simple and enjoyable process for you.

My hope is that everything on this site helps you decide what's best for you, and leaves you feeling confident and empowered.

Note: To leave nothing to question, eight years after creating this site and two years after Dr. Jeremy Pyle did my breast revision, I became a proud member of the team at Davis and Pyle Plastic Surgery. You can see the entire timeline of Eden Knows Implants right here!

Now, let's dive in. Shall we?!

The Elephant in the room

I want to start right out by debunking one of the weirdest myths about breast augmentation:

Adult film stars aren't the only women on the planet who want to have bigger boobs. (There. I said it.)

In fact, using statistics straight from The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the most common woman who gets a breast augmentation is:

  • In her mid-30's
  • Married or in a longterm relationship
  • And has a college education
In other words, there is absolutely nothing weird or shameful about wanting to get breast implants.

Did you know that the number one reason women get implants is to help boost their self confidence? (and 94% say they are happy with their decision!) In the United States alone, around 300,000 women a year get the procedure... So be proud of your decision to do something for yourself.

In order to help women get an actual idea of what getting breast implants is really like, I filmed my entire experience! You can watch it right here:

Jenny Eden's "Boobie Steps"

One of the most common statements I found myself saying while I was learning about breast implants was, "I just wish there was a step-by-step plan for me to be following."

So that that's exactly what I have created for you, and I called them the 7 Boobie Steps.

Let's look at the step-by-step path I recommend for any woman considering breast implants...

Boobie Step #1

Get Your Bearings

As you get started, it's completely normal to have a lot of questions or even feel overwhelmed.

That's why it's really important for you to relax and explore.

You don’t need all the answers right now, and it’s perfectly fine if you’re not even sure you want a breast augmentation. Take a deep breath and let it out. It’s your body, your timeline, and your decision.

To help you get started, I’ve removed all the noise and created a 30-day daily email series where I'll answer questions like:

  • How much do breast implants cost?
  • How long will they last?
  • Will people be able to tell?
  • What about breastfeeding?
  • What's the difference in saline and silicone?

Ask A Surgeon

Also, if you have any burning questions, I've created a way for you to ask a one-on-one question to any of the incredible surgeons at Davis and Pyle Plastic Surgery.

Boobie Step #2

Get In Community

Emotions are powerful. And do you know what Fear, Anxiety, Uncertainty, Guilt, and Shame want? They want you to feel alone—like you're the only one who feels a certain way. But I’m here to tell you that you need to be surrounded by women just like you!

I know it seems like a silly idea, but these negative emotions begin to lose their power when we get into a group of like-minded people.

Fear fears community. And so do all negative emotions.

That’s why it’s so important for you to join a safe and private community of women who are in the same boat as you are.

Ladies Only! » I want to invite you to my completely private community for women who either have or want breast implants…

It's called "Bustmob!"

At the end of the day, none of us want our nosey co-workers or mother-in-laws hearing all about our breast augmentation, right? That's why Bustmob is a completely secret Facebook group where:

  • None of your current friends will ever be notified or be able to see that you've joined
  • Your posts and photos are 100% private and only seen by other women in the group
  • You will never have to worry about Instagram deleting your account or following all the crazy rules of a forum

To give you an idea of what it's like, here are some screenshots from Bustmob (names and faces have been blurred out):

Boobie Step #3

Find Your Look

It's time to find your Boobie Guide!!

Wait, what's a Boobie Guide? A Boobie Guide is the woman who's breasts most closely mirror the look you want after getting an augmentation.

In other words, it's the woman you are going to show the surgeon during your consultation.

You might have heard these called "Boobie Idols" as well, but I think that's a really unhealthy name for them. It subconsciously creates an unrealistic comparison and expectation between one woman's boobs and yours.

To complete Step 3, select a breast size below and find your Boobie Guide!

Note: For the first round of Boobie Guides, I got the fastest options which were available—but I don't like how skinny and lacking in diversity these are. I will be adding more normal-sized and diverse women soon!

Boobie Step #4

Get a Vectra

If you aren’t familiar with Vectra 3D imaging, it’s a fairly new technology that top surgeons are making available to women seeking breast augmentation. I consider this a must for women considering breast implants.

After doing a torso scan, they are able to show you a really accurate representation of different types and sizes of breast implants on your body!

One of my favorite features is being able to see results with and without clothing from different angles. Here’s a good example of what I’m talking about...

Boobie Step #5

Select Your Surgeon

Finding the best surgeon for your augmentation can be one of the most stressful steps of getting breast implants. I've lived it... twice!

For me, finding the best surgeon meant opening up my options to cities beyond where I lived, and I am so glad I sacrificed a little bit of personal convenience for my very permanent surgery.

To help you get started, I've written an article called How I Selected My Plastic Surgeon, and I think it's really going to help you complete Boobie Step #5!

Boobie Step #6

Prepare for Surgery & Recovery

The time that you will spend getting ready for your breast augmentation can feel like a whirlwind, but I have two resources to help you feel perfectly prepared for your surgery.

The first resource is my Pre-Op Checklist where you'll learn about everything from how to prepare your bed to beating post-op constipation.

The second resource is a thorough list of health-related instructions that I asked the world-class clinical team here at Davis and Pyle Plastic Surgery to create for you. You'll find instructions related to medications, food and drink, and care instructions.

Boobie Step #7

Figure Out Your New figure

I'll be the first to say that shopping for clothes after getting breast implants is so much fun. But dressing your bigger breasts can be a challenge at first, especially if you've never had to before.

Since getting breast implants, I've found that I often have to put a little more thought into what I'm wearing. After a fair bit of getting it wrong myself, I've learned some tricks to helping you get things right.

That's why I've created a whole section on Eden Knows Implants dedicated to clothing reviews, and I also review clothing every week on my YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss any!

The Top 10 Questions I Get About Breast Implants

How Much Do Breast Implants cost?

Depending on the implant type and skillset/education of the plastic surgeon, a quality breast augmentation should range between $7,500 and $9,500. Anything cheaper should be a red flag.

How long do breast implants last?

The most important thing to know is that breast implants are not meant to last forever. According to most surgeons, the majority of us can expect a solid 15 to 20 years from our augmentation before a conversation about an exchange starts becoming necessary.

Can I breastfeed With Breast implants?

I've got great news for you! 90% of women with breast implants have no troubles breastfeeding their baby. If breastfeeding is important to you, I suggest you request an incision site other than your areolar.

How can I minimize scarring after a breast augmentation?

The best way to minimize scarring is to use an all-natural scar cream.

You should also wait at least one year before exposing your scars to the sun without some sort of heavy UV protection to avoid hyperpigmentation.

How long does it take to heal from a breast augmentation?

The initial healing process takes about a week. After 5 to 7 days, you will be back up and walking around as usual, but you'll still have quite a bit of swelling and tenderness.

After a month or two, they will start feeling like a normal part of you, and you will be able to get back to the gym. For the entire healing process, including the slow process of "Dropping and Fluffing," you'll be looking at about 6 months.

What are the "Boobie Blues?"

Right after surgery, some women experience some regret or depression over getting breast implants. This is called the Boobie Blues, and it typically lasts about 2 days. It's perfectly normal and something you should be aware about so you don't freak out after your procedure.

Is it possible for breast implants to explode?

If you mean "explode" as in "blow up," then no. Implants don't just detonate themselves at random, but of course it's possible for the silicone bag (on any type of implant) to develop a small tear.

Depending on what kind of implant you have, your breast implant could be fully deflated in a matter of hours (saline) or you may never even know it happened (Gummy Bear).

What is the difference between silicone gel and gummy bear breast implants?

Silicone Gel implants are filled with a viscous silicone gel that feels very close to natural breast tissue. Gummy Bear implants are filled with highly-cohesive silicone gel and has a firmer feel than standard Silicone Gel implants. In the event of a rupture, Silicone Gel implants have a higher likelihood of leeching outside of the breast pocket.

What is Capsular Contracture and Bottoming Out?

Capsular Contracture is a medical term for when too much scar tissue forms around your breast implants, squeezing and distorting them. Bottoming Out is when the breast implant pocket fails and allows the implant to fall, causing the nipples to look too high.

Will I be able to workout after getting breast implants?

Absolutely! Just make sure to allow your breasts to heal for at least one month before resuming any type of high-intensity workout. I also recommend that you listen to your body and not to over do it on the amount of resistance you use on chest exercises.
